Clinical and Statistical Analysis with Age in 1158 Cases of Pediatric Burn Patients.

Abstract
A retrospective study was conducted on 1158 pediatric burn patients hospitalized at the Department of the plastic surgery in Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital from January 1996 to December 1999. The objective of this study was to describe the pediatric burns in order to help make a program for the prevention of burn injuries in children. The greatest number were children with 2 years of age and the pediatric burns were most frequent in children with 4 years of age or younger(74.4%). Boys were affected more often than girls, the most important cause of pediatric burns was scalding burn. Seasonal distribution showed that fall marked the highest incidence rate. We consider it necessary to educate family members with children 4 years old and younger about the dangers of burn injuries. We also expect that these data will be used to develop a prevention program.
